Montreat Retreat

Back from the retreat! We are so lucky to have such beautiful scenery so close to us. For fall break we took off to the mountains for a team retreat. We went to Montreat College's facility in Black Mountain, NC where we stayed in a bunkhouse. The first night there we went through a few hours of team building activities and discussion. We all learned so much about each other. The team stayed up getting to know each other too, but I passed out, being old and all. The next morning we had a great practice in Montreat's gym. Sometimes its hard to practice in different situtations like that, but the girls were very focused. The high ropes course was that afternoon, and as you can tell by some of the pictures, it really took everyone outside of their comfort zone. When I say high I mean HIGH. Some of the girls were screaming my name when they were up there......I think they were just so grateful for being able to participate. :) What a fun afternoon. By the end of the trip we were all exhausted, but all a little closer I hope!

Family Weekend

We had a great time this weekend with everybody's familes here for family weekend. We enjoyed a BBQ and cornhole tournament up at the house. I'm still not sure if there was an actual winner. I'm sure there are differing stories on that. We missed everyone who was not able to make it but hopefully we will see you soon!

Lady Paladins Making Strides

Hundreds of South Carolina Residents joined together at the Haywood mall in Greenville, South Carolina. The inaugural American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk/run is to fight breast cancer and provide hope to all people facing the disease. Despite the rain, your Lady Paladins arrived early to help set-up/decorate each tent station. They were divided into two groups: one group distributed food to all participants while the other group sold merchandise. During the race, our ladies stood at the finish line and cheered on the walkers/runners as they completed every mile. It was an amazing time for the team and a day we will cherish forever!

Coach Dixon

It was a great summer. The school year is off and running. The team came back in great shape with a wonderful attitude. We are into our fall program full bore, our weights training, our skill development and our conditioning. The seniors Lee Stephens, Kali Holtfreter, Mollie Petersen, and Susan Troutman are doing an excellent job of leadership. We are so proud of Mollie for being honored as a Furman Fellow. It is a very prestigious honor. I want to leave you with the quote:

Follow the three R's

-Respect for self

-Respect for others

-Responsibility for all your actions

Mollie Petersen

Hey hey hey!
It's Mollie here from the Furman Women's Basketball Team. I'm a senior this year and I can't believe it! I'm a Physics and Environmental Studies major from Asheville, North Carolina. I love playing basketball, hanging out with my friends, and taking pictures. The best thing about taking pictures is being able to look back at the amazing things I've done over the past four years -- Athletic Field Day, hanging out with friends, teammates, and coaches, building a huge swan from 2,000 plastic water bottles for the Environmental Action Group, and going to New Orleans for three weeks last May! Furman has provided numerous opportunities to grow and I'm looking forward to what this year has to offer!
